Establishing The Need For Communities In Schools In D.C.

Early in 2003, a group of community leaders committed to children, youth and their families in the District of Columbia organized a Task Force and engaged a Washington, D.C. based educational consulting firm to conduct an assessment to determine the need for, and feasibility of implementing the vehicle of the nationally recognized Communities In Schools (CIS) method and program to access and broker community and social services for children and their families. The study clearly revealed that the District would benefit greatly from the successful track record of the Communities In Schools program.
