Ellen London to Leave After 7 Years as Executive Director of Communities in Schools of the Nation’s Capital, Board Announces Executive Search
December 19, 2019 (Washington, DC) – Today, Ellen London announced she will be leaving Communities in Schools of the Nation’s Capital (CISNCAP) after serving as its Executive Director since 2013. She will continue with CISNCAP through June 2020 to ensure a smooth and successful transition to her successor.
Under Ms. London’s leadership, CISNCAP grew and deepened the services that the organization provides to DC students and their families, while tripling the number of students served by partnering with more DC Public Schools.
“I speak for the entire Board in thanking Ellen for her steadfast commitment and dedication to building a program that now serves nearly 6,000 students,” said Brian Reid, CISNCAP Board Chair, “Ellen’s outstanding efforts have resulted in very strong relationships with DC Public Schools, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education, and other partner organizations. Through her leadership, we have expanded and deepened our student engagement by working with partners to bring valuable resources and programs to at-risk students empowering them to stay in school, graduate, and achieve in life.”

The Board of Directors has begun recruiting for an Executive Director who will be responsible for all aspects of the organization’s programming, data collection and evaluation, fundraising, finances, and operations in accordance with the strategic goals and objectives of the organization. CISNCAP is a charitable organization recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code that has been in operation for fifteen years. CISNCAP currently partners with 13 DC public schools, from elementary through high school, and serves almost six thousand students with strong financial and programmatic support from the DC education community. The school-based staff work closely with school administrators to develop a plan to meet the needs of each school. There are three levels of programming at each school: school-wide initiatives, small group resources and individual counseling (integrated student support) which focus on behavioral as well as academic student success. The school-based staff capitalize on the resources available within the community to obtain much needed support for students and their families, by working with over fifty community-based organizations that provide a variety of services.
