We work daily in schools to help students become resilient and successful. One of our most important partners in this work is Connected Psychology, and we are so fortunate to work with these talented professionals at seven of our DCPS schools.
We know there is a clear need for trauma-informed practice in most of our schools. At no cost to families or schools, Connected Psychology partners with schools to identify students who need clinical support to help them deal with challenges in their lives so that the students can be present in their classrooms and can interact appropriately with their peers and teachers.
This work extends beyond student support, because Connected Psychology believes their school often becomes the family system for students. So, Connected Psychology staff work with teachers and administrators to build a culture of support in each school. They have teacher drop-in hours at Cardozo, for example, because teachers can be impacted by the trauma their students often bring into the classroom.
Working together, CIS site coordinators and Connected Psychology find the right resources each student needs to help them stay in school and achieve in life. It’s a great partnership and we couldn’t be happier to have such great people in our schools!
